More tests to pass this test
Re: “America is being tested,” April 19 news story.
Vice President Mike Pence’s words to the Air Force Academy graduates are sadly ironic. The obvious rejoinder under the current circumstances is that America is not being tested enough.

Pull together; don’t protest
Re: “Trump foments protests, alarming Dem governors,” April 18 news story
President Trump on Friday openly encouraged right-wing protests in states with stay-at-home orders, even after officially and publicly conceding that reopening was up to governors. In his three years as president, this is the most outrageous action he has taken in my opinion. He publicly says he supports our public safety officers, police, fire, EMTs, but yet he creates an environment that necessitates these officers to unnecessarily expose themselves in order to maintain the public peace.
President Lincoln struggled to maintain the Union. President Trump is doing everything he can to break up the United States. He has no concept that words are important and that they are as injurious as sticks and stones, but worse they promote actions on the part of those inclined toward violence. Please, Mr. President, think about what you say, all of us have to pull together to overcome this crisis. Put the united back into our United States.

This week’s protests against the stay-at-home orders in Michigan, Minnesota and other states — plus Sunday’s protest at our state Capitol — remind me of those who like to take exception to any authority imposing actions for the “greater good.” I commend Gov. Jared Polis for his actions to bring the curve down on the COVID-19 virus.
While none of us like being required to stay at home to the extent required, it is prudent and in the best interests of each of us. Furthermore, I much prefer the governors of our respective states making decisions that fit each state’s situation as opposed to President Trump rushing the reopening of American businesses. Science and professional health experts should make such decisions.

Every time I hear and see images of these protests against the governors who wisely and carefully ordered stay-at-home orders, it makes me first of all mad, but then sad and incredulous that the president himself is the one inciting and provoking these protests with his tweets and his selfish rhetoric.
I have seen images of mothers with kids, and even babies, participating in these protests, and although I would never wish any harm on anybody, they deserve to suffer what thousands upon thousands of our citizens are suffering, and the thousands upon thousands that have died because of this terrible pandemic and whose families were not able to be by their side and say a last goodbye.
If they think that Trump is doing this for them, wake up and smell the flowers! He is only thinking of himself.

Let us use our open spaces
Yesterday afternoon many of my neighbors and I were outdoors waiting for the Thunderbirds. I live in Lowry, and we have acres and acres of open areas. Many people (myself included) found a field to see the planes and keep distance between us.
Then along came a young woman who kicked everyone off the field, saying that this field is reserved for soccer games only. What? There are no soccer tournaments going on, not yesterday nor I imagine, for the foreseeable future.
The city of Denver hasn’t anything better to do than monitor their soccer fields? Please.
