Suspect arrested in connection to fatal shooting in northeast Denver; witness says victim was shot in the back

Denver police arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting another in a northeast Denver shopping area.

Police arrested Samuel Robinson, 51, on suspicion of first-degree murder Friday afternoon, about 12 hours after the shooting near the intersection of Chambers Road and Green Valley Ranch Boulevard.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner on Monday identified the victim of the shooting as 36-year-old Arthur Robinson.

Witnesses to the shooting told police that they saw two men arguing about 1 a.m. Friday near an AutoZone, according to Robinson’s arrest affidavit. One witness said the victim was walking away from the scene when the other man shot him in the back. The man with the gun then got into his SUV and drove away.

Police found the SUV about 15 minutes later and interviewed the woman driving it. They also found a gun inside the vehicle that matched the description of the weapon used in the shooting.

Through interviews with witnesses and family members of the victim, police were able to identify Robinson as a suspect. Officers arrested him about 1 p.m. Friday outside a residence.

Robinson spoke with detectives for more than an hour, but his statements were redacted from his arrest affidavit.
